Rigid Cystoscopy - who is it for?
Who Is A Rigid Cystoscopy For?
A rigid cystoscopy is essential for diagnosing conditions that impact the bladder and urinary system.
What are the benefits?
A rigid cystoscopy is a day surgery and you can return home on the same day.
What happens During Surgery?
You will need to fast in the lead up to the operation.
A general or spinal anaesthetic (epidural) will be administered before the surgery commences.
The rigid cystoscope will be inserted into the urethra and advanced into the bladder. Your Urologist will examine the images inside your bladder on a screen and diagnose your condition.
Small surgical instruments will then be passed down through the cystoscope so the Urologist can take a biopsy (sample of bladder tissue) or treat the affected area.
A cystoscopy is generally not painful but can be uncomfortable.
How long will I stay in hospital?
A rigid cystoscopy is a day surgery and you can return home on the same day.
What is my recovery time?
As long as you avoid activities that may irritate your prostate, you should be able to return to normal activities within a few days and notice significant improvements within 2 weeks.
